Coral Triangle

The Bismarck Solomon Seas Ecoregion and Fiji Islands Marine Ecoregion are renowned globally for their significant levels of biodiversity and represent the Pacific half of WWF’s new Coral Triangle Initiative.

This initiative aims to build on existing conservation partnerships that span sectors and institutional boundaries across 6 countries, to remove the incentives that currently drive the exploitation of marine resources.

WWF will utilize new approaches to lobbying governments, regional organizations and private sector decision makers, based on clear socio-economic arguments, to influence policy and trigger changes in behaviour for sustainable ocean governance.

This result will be supported by work at the seascape level halting destructive fishing practices and protecting critical habitats through effective spatial management.
